Since its earliest days the labor movement has sought to improve the quality of work life, create workplace democracy and participate in employer/employee decision-making.

Since when did a loan repayment become “optional”? A loan is an agreement to borrow money in order to get something valuable, like a house, car or education.

Regarding the new Grand Canyon monument — sorry, Janie Curtis. This is not a land grab, it is a protection of sacred Native Americans’ land who are, but the way, the local residents and have been for thousands of years.

It is understandable that members of the community are concerned about Prescott Unified School District test scores.

Regarding Dan Speights’ letter (Aug. 24), the issue of drag shows and children is really simple. If you don’t want your children to attend, don’t let them.

Woe! I must have missed something when I read about a possible ordinance to restrict drag shows to adults.

Former President Donald Trump should be barred from running for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential election, based on his involvement in inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection, as the U.S. House Jan. 6 committee found, (“Trump says he has been notified he’s a target of the US probe into efforts to overturn 2020 election,” July 18).

I miss the beautiful drive on Williamson Valley Road, as it was north of Iron Springs Road, before it was widened. Here’s hoping they don’t do the same to Highway 89 through the Dells.

In regard to Kelly Kading’s column on “the miracle of fracking and $1 gas,” he appropriately notes that “oil prices are set by global market forces.”

With all of the opposition to the proposed Whiskey Row hotel, I am at a loss to understand why there has been so little public outrage over the downtown area’s other development project – another five-story hotel/condo complex – slated to be constructed on the site of the old City Hall.

Even those who prefer not to think too deeply about climate change notice when their familiar summer holiday morphs into an ordeal akin to being slow roasted.

I read in today’s newspaper (Aug. 11) that the Prescott City Council voted unanimously for a $75 fee to be imposed on those who have been convicted of a crime.

I will not weep for Prescott’s loss of sales tax revenue from residential rental units.

I read a Rants & Raves message about people not using the sidewalk and walking in the street where vehicles have the right of way. While this is true, on trash days, people put their trash barrels on the sidewalk, which is probably what they were told to do by the city.

Haven’t seen a coyote around our place in at least six weeks, and scarcely any before that.

In regards to the letter on the earth being 10,000 years old, from the fossil record, the earth must have been a crowed place for all those animals to have been here in that short of time.

This could be one way of reducing risk: Folks who want to live in disaster prone areas may have to include self-insurance into their financial planning.
