Yavapai Food Neighbors Project feeds the hungry on a regular basis. We supply about 6,000 pounds of food a month to the Chino Valley Hungry Kids Project, the Mayer Schools Weekend Meals program, the Prescott Community Cupboard and the Prescott Valley Food Bank. This five-year-old community service program is run entirely by volunteers, involves only four to six hours every two months. Wilderness First Aid Training. This is a condensed course that teaches the essential skills needed to deal with trauma injuries in a backcountry setting when professional medical response is hours, or days, away. Course is taught by a former American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Instructor. Course is 12 hours in duration and the cost is $75 per student. This is a private course. The Heart Song Center for Grieving Children is an organization that offers free grief support to children, teens, young adults and their adult caregivers that have experienced the death of a loved one. This is a monthly program that meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Prescott Boys and Girls Club, 335 E Aubrey St., Prescott. Activities include arts, crafts, music and facilitated dialog. The Senior Peer Program of West Yavapai Guidance Clinic offers free in-home weekly visits to seniors who may be lonely, isolated or homebound. The Alzheimer’s Association offers ongoing support groups for families and friends impacted by dementia. Prescott Fire Department paramedics or RNs teach the classes. Classes offered include: Heartsaver/AED — a four-hour, two-year certification for ages 10 and up, $40; BLS/Health care provider certification for health care professionals, a four-hour, two-year certification, $45; Community First-Aid Training, a four-hour, two-year certification for ages 10 and up, $30. Funeral Consumers Alliance of Northern Arizona has volunteers on duty to meet with community members interested in the pre-planning of a simple, dignified and affordable funeral. This free information is made available through the group’s affiliation with the Funeral Consumers Alliance, recognized by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission as an unbiased source of funeral information. Four-County Conference on Disabilities is a nonprofit agency providing services and advocacy to persons living with disabilities. The goal is to find ways to help individuals with disabilities realize their dreams and aspirations and achieve maximum independence, productivity, integration and inclusion in the community. 4CCDD provides training in order to increase skills, helps in finding services, employment and housing.
