On Thursday, Aug. 10, Chino Valley Police Department (CVPD) officers learned that Julian Porter, a Level 2 sex offender, was living in the 200 block of East Hohokam Drive, according to a news release.

Porter was known to have an active probation violation warrant and a sex offender absconder. The last residence Porter had registered for was in Prescott, however, he has not lived at this residence since June 2023.

Officers arrived at Porter’s residence to take him into custody. Porter saw the officers and fled from the residence. Numerous CVPD officers and Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) deputies set up a perimeter to contain Porter’s attempt to flee. Police, K-9s, and unmanned aerial vehicles were utilized to locate Porter.

A citizen called 911 and stated a male was hiding in their shed. Officers responded to the residence and located Porter hiding near a shed, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Porter, 21, failed to register his new address with the Yavapai County Sex Offender Unit. Porter was also on probation and failed to check in with his probation officer for the past few months. Porter was booked into jail on his probation warrant and failure to register as a sex offender.

“CVPD would like to thank the YCSO and the citizens of Chino Valley for their assistance,” the news release stated.
