Ask A Cop: How do I spot a scam?
Be aware of any requests for information or payments that you did not initiate.
If you do receive a request in an email or text message, take a few moments to review the information the request came from as often it will come from a strange email that is not related to the “company.”
Also be aware if there is an urgency for you to respond. Many scammers rely on a sense of fear to push people to respond quickly and not allow people time to evaluate the request.
If you have any questions, call the Prescott Valley Police non-emergency number at 928-772-9261.
“Ask A Cop” is an ongoing collaboration between the Prescott Valley Tribune and the Prescott Valley Police Department. If you have a question for the police, email hdfoster@prescottvalley-az.gov.
